Red Socks Run 2024

My Achievements

My Red Socks Run for Kidney Health

This October, I’m going to Red Socks Run as life depends on it.

By walking, 150km I want to raise awareness of the 60hrs that people affected by kidney disease need to spend on dialysis each month.

As many of you are aware my daughter, Karen suffers from Polysystic Kidney Disease.

Please donate to my page to raise funds for research into life-saving treatments, and provide support to individuals and families affected by kidney failure.

YOU can make a difference – Join me and help create a future where kidney health is a priority for all Australians.

Walking for Kidney Health. Nearly there!

Red Socks Run

Monday 14th Oct
Having hit my target of $1000, (thanks  to everyone who has donated so far),  but with still half the month to go I am increasing my target to $1500. Also I was hoping to walk 150km this month and I have only managed 30km.  So I must press on!!. There is still time to donate and any amount is welcome. Like Cancer, there are a variety of Kidney diseases which are incurable and either result in Dialysis and Transplant OR Death. Donations go directly to research to find ways to reduce the progression of this horrible disease.

Karen has now been placed on a trial programme  for a drug which, it is hoped, will delay the deterioration of  her kidneys. As always, fingers are crossed.

Beautiful Day

Saturday 12th Oct
Walked the boys along Kingscliff beach this morning. What a beautiful day. Again, thank you everyone for your generosity,
much appreciated by all the Spiers!

Target reached

Friday 11th Oct
My target of $1000 has been reached thanks to the generosity of Family & Friends, especially good friends Garrey & Lyn. We are nearly half way through October, so I will continue  with my Red Socks Run Appeal for any that may like to donate.

Karen has now entered into a trial which it is hoped will slow the progression of the disease further. Fingers crossed! And Toes!!

Walking for Kidney Health

Wednesday 9th Oct
September spent visiting family and friends in UK. Back to walking and needing to lose a couple of kilos, I'm still aiming for $1000 donation to Kidney Health. Every donation counts and a big Thank You to my Family for giving me a heads up on that amount.

Tuesday 27th Aug
After walking my boys (Herbie and Vader) about 5 kms almost everyday for the last 14 years, (that's around 1500km). I thought I could put that to good use to raise funds for Kidney Health Australia.

Karen was first diagnosed with PKD (Polysystic Kidney Disease) when she was 25 and she is now 45 with the disease progressing toward dialysis. New treatment has her on a drug designed to slow down this progression. There have been many gains in the research of Kidney Disease though there is no cure. This is a very worthwhile cause, and less talked about than many other conditions. Every dollar no matter how small helps. Your help is very much appreciated.
