My Red Socks walk for Kidney Health
Hi, I'm Johnny. I've had a kidney transplant for 23 years now.
The disease that I had is in my transplanted kidney, but hopefully I get a few more years out of it yet before I have to go back onto the dialysis machine.
Back when my kidneys failed I ended up in a 3 month coma due to other complications from pneumonia and legionaries disease. The life support was going to be switched off twice, but luckily for me it wasn't and I came through the other side.
As a result I have pulmonary fibrosis and mild emphysema in my lungs.
Degenerative bone disease in the sacroiliac joint and good old arthritis in many places.
But I keep on keeping on!
I'm on a DSP but work part time as a bus mechanic.
I'm active as I can be these days, and enjoy walking my dog Miss Harley Quinn daily.
This October, I’m showing up for every renal unit, every patient and moving towards a future without dialysis.
There are over 15,000 Australians on dialysis, and that number is rising. That’s why urgent action is needed now - to slow the progression and ultimately stop it.
Every dollar raised, every km logged, every step we take brings us closer to a future without dialysis.
Join me to honour the 60hrs a month someone spends on dialysis and together we can Move for them and Move for change!
Please donate to support a better future for people with kidney disease.
