My target 80 kms

There are over 25,000 people in Australia living with kidney failure. There is no cure. Dialysis or a kidney transplant are needed to stay alive.

I’m taking on a challenge to help transform the future of kidney disease. Please support me and help fund vital services and research to ensure those affected can live their best lives.

Together we can transform the future for everyone affected by kidney disease.

Thank you for your support!

Decades and no real change

Right now, 1 in 7 Australians are living with signs of chronic kidney disease.

There is no cure. For many, dialysis will be the only option.

But your gift today can fund life-changing research to transform lives now and into the future.

Dialysis assists people in living longer, but not better. It’s physically demanding, mentally exhausting, and limits what people can do.

Your support funds life-changing research to unlock new treatments, earlier detection and alternatives to dialysis so people have more options and a better quality of life.

Not all CKD patients can have dialysis

Monday 13th Oct
People think that everyone with CKD can have dialysis, this is usually due to other underlying illnesses. These treatments that these CKD patients undergo can be more dangerous and weakening than dialysis itself. I'm not understating the effects of dialysis, I've been on it, we need something else. That is the main reason I'm talking part in the red socks run can we need a cure, we need to find a cure or something else to end dialysis by 2050. People believe transplants are the best answer, and for now they are, but even though I have been blessed by a transplant myself, it is not the end of the CKD path.  Each hospital visit is lined with the fear of a transplant rejecting and back onto the dialysis waiting list, and of course dialysis.. that's why I'm doing the #redsoxrun to help

ive done extra 12 steps now 10,064.

So I recieved an anonymous donation of $100.00

Monday 6th Oct
A donation was recieved with no name, i sent a thankyou, and asked if they could tell me who it was. I recieved an email today from the donor,  i got emotional as my family knows her well. It was a nurse from the Royal Childrens from way back in 1978 when my CKD journey began, Sister Julia McCoy. She kept me sane through those years always making me laugh, always smiling, she just seemed to always be on the ward.  She is still at the hospital, just an amazing lady, God bless her, and ive promised to catch up soon.  The photo is from 5 years ago, my last catch up

My mum and dad dialysis pioneers

Thursday 2nd Oct
Back in 1978 home peritoneal dialysis had only begin, it is still used as a single bag multiple times a day dialysis and the risks of infection is still there as well. This is why the red socks run is important as we need to end dialysis by 2050.

The picture is of the wall bracket my dad made to hold 11 bags of dialysis fluid, all this when the whole dialysis cycler was being used rarely at home,
Mum and dad, just amazing good bless them

Chronic kidney disease is not about age

Wednesday 1st Oct
Growing up in the Royal children's hospital renal ward,  it was full of kids babies to teens. Many would always be there when I was. A 4 year old who was on dialysis. Her parents gave her a kidney transplant but it rejected and she was back onto relying on a machine.  One night when I was in the ward she had come in because of a stroke due to high blood pressure.

Chronic renal disease does not just mean going onto a machine and all is ok. There are many other diseases that stem from it. This is why our main aim is to #enddialysisby2050
These are my experiences of chronic renal disease .

What the red socks run means to me.

Red socks run 2025 is approaching fast

Friday 12th Sep
The red socks run is an important event as we try to raise money to use on research to find a cure for chronic renal disease. We are walking at least 60km in the month of October, which represents the amount of time a person spend on dialysis a month, 5 hours at least 3 times a week. Other forms of dialysis can be continual.

People do not feel better after this treatment, it drains fluid off the body, multiple kilos at a time, resulting in side effects. Once I remember was the cramps, these were not simple stretch it out cramps, but the full body cramps in bed which eye painful and left you in pain. Dad who was on heamodialysis would have really bad cramps in his hands.

So we are raising these funds and walking together to
#enddialysis2050

why i am taking part in the red socks run 2025.

Thursday 31st Jul
Over the years i have been on dialysis,   3 different types. For one, dialysis is not a cure for Chronic Kidney Disease,  A dialysis patient spends at least 80 hours a month relying on a dialysis machine,It does not mean that they are feeling great when they come off of it. they will feel drained, weak and many times suffering from cramps because of the fluid drained from the body.

You  can read more about the end dialysis by 2050 heere:

We need a cure, and the red socks run is people all around Australia raising funds for our goal:  #enddialysisby2050
