My Red Socks Run for Kidney Health
As not many people will know, unfortunately, a couple of years ago, when getting an MRI done for a football injury, an incidental finding was reported of numerous Cysts covering both of my Kidneys.
After many upon many Health, Specialist, and Genetestist appointments, I received a formal diagnosis of Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)
For those who don't know, Polycystic Kidney Disease is a genetic condition where numerous cysts grow over someone's Kidneys and over time increase in size, impacting kidney function, requiring dialysis to filter toxins from the person's blood, and eventually causing the person to need a kidney transplant.
During my appointments, it was revealed I am an extremely unlucky person, not receiving this disease as a genetic condition passed down from my parents, but part of an extremely small number of people who developed this disease as a first-generation mutation in my genes.
So this October, I’m going to Red Socks Run as life depends on it. By running, I want to raise awareness for the average of 60 hours a week that people affected by kidney disease need to spend on dialysis each month.
Please donate to my page if you can, to raise funds for research into life-saving treatments, and provide support to individuals and families affected by kidney failure.
