My Red Socks Challenge for Kidney Health
Walking 60km for Kidney Health
This October, I’m taking on the challenge of walking 60km throughout the month to raise awareness for people living with kidney disease and those who rely on dialysis.
This cause is incredibly close to my heart because I have personally experienced what it is like to depend on dialysis. My journey was through peritoneal dialysis, rather than traditional machine-based haemodialysis, and it was a huge part of my life during a very difficult time.
Dialysis isn’t just a medical treatment. It becomes part of your everyday life. It can affect your energy, your freedom, your plans, your family and your mental wellbeing. While my experience was with peritoneal dialysis, I have so much admiration for everyone who continues to navigate dialysis in all its forms, often while waiting and hoping for the chance of a transplant.
I am incredibly grateful for where I am today, and I know firsthand just how life-changing the gift of a functioning kidney can be.
So this October, every kilometre I walk will be a reminder of the people currently on dialysis, those waiting for a transplant, and the families who support them through it all.
60km. 31 days. One cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
If you’re able to support my challenge through a donation, sharing this post, or simply helping raise awareness, I would be so grateful.
Every step counts.
