Red Socks Challenge 2026

My Red Socks Challenge for Kidney Health

Every October myself and our closest friends and family take part in this challenge in support of Damon.
In August 2022 Damon was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a kidney disease that causes antibodies to build up in your body and attack the kidneys.
This disease has no signs or symptoms, and unfortunately for Damon, his case was detected quite late, leaving very little options for treatment.
Damon now has 0% kidney function and relies on dialysis to live.

Damon is now on dialysis overnight, for 8-9 hours every single night of his life.
This has caused him to have to sacrifice a lot, miss out on many social events and trips and last minute plans are often not a possibility.

Through every single hospital admission, sleepless nights from bad cramps, Doctors appointments, Specialist appointments, medication change etc Damon has taken it all in his stride.

We now anxiously await the phone call to tell us that there is a kidney ready for him, as a transplant is his only hope for a somewhat normal life again, even if only temporarily.

Damon Fred, I love you to the moon and back and will always always always be here through every single day both good and bad.

We are also extremely fortunate to have a very supportive group of family and friends who support us every step of the way.
Damon’s kidneys may have given up, but we won’t. We love you Damon xx
