We are raising money to improve the lives of kid’s living with kidney disease.
Andy Smith of Highton Vic and his son in law Oden Hickey of Greenbank Qld are about to compete in their sixth Kidney Kar Rally.
They are aiming to support the ‘Kidney Kids’ by heading off on a rally adventure of nearly 3,000 kilometres in 7 days. Both Andy and Oden have an affinity with this cause as we are both kidney donors. In 2003 Andy donated a kidney to his daughter Michelle and this kidney kept her healthy for 8 years. After this kidney failed and several years of dialysis, Michelle then received a kidney from her now husband Oden in November 2014 as part of the paired kidney exchange program.
Andy and Oden will be travelling from Mudgee to Narrandera via Batesmans Bay from 13 -19 August 2023 and are aiming to raise as much funds as possible to support a cause that is close to our hearts.
Very few people realise that more Australians die with kidney related disease than from breast cancer, prostate cancer and even road traffic accidents. Living with kidney disease can be extremely challenging with dialysis often required 3 days a week for up to 5 hours at a time to stay healthy.
For a child this can be a very isolating experience when they should be outside, having fun, and doing things that other children enjoy. That’s why the Kidney Kar Rally is committed to raising funds in support of Kidney Health Australia’s ‘Kidney Kids’ Camps. These camps allow children with kidney disease to enjoy fun-filled days of camps and activities whilst still receiving the necessary life-saving medical care.
Both Andy and Oden would appreciate your support by donating to such a worthy cause. Simply head to the link below, select ‘Give Now’ and you will receive an automatic tax-deductable receipt.
Thanks in advance for your support – every little bit helps!
