Red Socks Run 2024

My Achievements

My Red Socks Run for Kidney Health

This October, I’m going to Red Socks Run as life depends on it.

I am grateful for the life-changing and life-saving work of everyone who helps kidney patients - especially dialysis nurses, specialists, and surgeons. It takes a massive team to support those with Kidney Disease. Raising funds this October for Kidney Heath Australia is a small way of saying ‘thank you’.

By running (/fast walking) 60km I want to raise awareness of the 60hrs that people affected by kidney disease need to spend on dialysis each month. I’m not particularly fit, but 2km per day sounds achievable.

Please donate to my page to raise funds for research into life-saving treatments, and provide support to individuals and families affected by kidney failure.

YOU can make a difference – Join me and help create a future where kidney health is a priority for all Australians.

People often come up to me in the street and ask me “What is the significance of the red socks in your Red Sock Run?”. I explain that for patients who rely on dialysis, their feet get very cold. In fact, pretty much all of you gets cold during dialysis. Supporting a dialysis patient can be as simple as heating and delivering a bean bag at regular intervals.

Thus, the Red Sock Run is designed to raise awareness of this temperature discomfort, as well as the other types of discomfort that come along with a three-times-a-week blood cleansing process.

No quantity of red socks will save a life, but your donation to Kidney Health Australia will help support this live saving treatment.

I have 15km to run in 8 days. Today there is a matching grant available, so every donation up to $11,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous supporter. This means your $50 donation will have twice the impact and become $100!

You can donate on this page.

In the interest of sibling rivalry, you can donate to Margaret and Poppy here: https://fundraise.kidney.org.au/.../margare.../red-socks-run

“The wicked run when no one is chasing them”, says the wise author of Proverbs 28.

This October, I’m being chased by the fundraising team at Kidney Health Australia. If I don’t reach my fundraising goal, they might give me a real reason to run. And I’m not particularly fit, so I suspect they’ll catch me quite easily.
My 60km fun-run is nothing like the 60 hours a dialysis patient spends connected to a machine each month. Having your blood cleaned, for four hours at a time three days a week, is far from fun.

Will you support Kidney Heath Australia? They, in turn, will support people living with Kidney Disease.
