In Memory of Professor Peter Morris

By Clare Join Me

Professor Peter Morris died recently and will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and colleagues.

Peter and colleagues were the first to discover antibodies against the donor tissue in those who have received a transplanted kidney. They went on to identify the most important genetic and cellular markers for ensuring a good match between donor and recipient, thereby minimising the risk of organ rejection. This discovery has been vital for the success of organ transplants.

Peter (Prof) worked tirelessly for many years as a surgeon and researcher and performed many kidney transplants. Peter was also the Director of the Australian Kidney Foundation (now Kidney Health Australia).

We would like to honour his life and work by accepting donations to Kidney Health Australia as a way of continuing to support people in need of dialysis and transplants.
