My kidney journey

Wednesday 16th Aug
In October 2021, I got diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney disease. I got told I was sitting at 12% kidney function and needed a transplant. The doctor told me I needed to back to Ireland to visit family that December  (during covid) as I would be too unwell to go 6 months later. 

Over 2 years later, Lots of tests, doctor appointments, fortnightly injections, I am currently sitting at 8% kidney function and not yet on dialysis. Although it’s slowly decreasing, I am not showing many symptoms, and whilst I still feel fit and healthy, I want to raise as much money as I can for Kidney Health Australia. They do such amazing work for people like me - of all ages! 1 in 10 people in Australia have Chronic Kidney Disease. A lot of people don’t even know they have it! 

On 25th November, myself and a team will be walking 100km, from the Story Bridge Hotel in Brisbane to the Gold Coast. We will do it in one go. We are starting approximately 3pm, so we miss the hottest part of the day, leading into the night.
