My Red Socks Run for Kidney Health

As not may people will know, unfortunately a couple years ago when getting an MRI done for a sports injury, an incidental finding was reported of numerous Cysts covering both of my Kidneys.

After many upon many Health, Specialist and Genetestist appointments I received a formal diagnosis of Polycystic Kidney Disease.

For those who don't know, Polycystic Kidney Disease is a genetic condition where numerous cysts grow over someone's Kidneys and over time grow in size, impacting kidney function, requiring dialysis to filter toxins from your blood, and eventually causing the person to require a kidney transplant.

During my appointments it was revealed I am an extremely unlucky person, not receiving this disease as a genetic condition passed down from my parents, but part of an extremely small amount of people that developed this disease as a first generation mutation in my genes.

So this October, I’m going to Red Socks Run as life depends on it. By running (and walking) 200km I want to raise awareness for the average of 60 hours a week that people affected by kidney disease need to spend on dialysis each month.

Please donate to my page if you can, to raise funds for research into life-saving treatments, and provide support to individuals and families affected by kidney failure.

YOU can make a difference – Join me and help create a future where kidney health is a priority for all Australians.
