Supporting a great cause & my little sis
This October, I’m walking & swimming for every person living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to create awareness for those on dialysis.
On average, a person with end stage CKD spends 60 hours per month on dialysis to stay alive.
My younger sister (Lorin) was a type 1 diabetic and unfortunately had kidney failure which resulted in her being on dialysis at age 33. This lasted for 4 long years...
Having seen Lorin go through this and the poor quality of life that she and the other patients experienced, improving the stats on kidney disease and creating a future without dialysis is something Im very passionate about.
The current stats aren't great!
*15 000 Aussies on dialysis
* 2.7M affected by kidney disease (~ 10% of the population)
*12% of deaths are kidney related &
* 3 in 4 at risk of developing kidney disease
To raise funds and awareness for Kidney Health Australia (Red Socks Run) I will be challenging myself to swim 60 laps (Olympic pool) and walk 60km each week for the month of October.
Kidney Health Australia has the ultimate goal to "end dialysis by 2050".
Funds go toward support services (including emotional support, peer connection, holiday dialysis, welcome packs for children). It also enables Kidney Health Australia to invest in research, early detection, healthier treatment options, and policy advocacy.
Any sized donation is greatly appreciated!
Now to grab my budgies, and map out my early morning walks.
