Eliza's Red Socks Run/Ride for Kidney Health

This October, I’m going to Red Socks Run as life depends on it. I have one kidney and have had a rough time with recurrent kidney infections since I was 19. But I am luckier than many.

By running (on my treadmill) and riding 60km in total over the month of October, I want to raise awareness of the 60hrs that people affected by kidney disease need to spend on dialysis each month.

I also want to share some awareness about:

*  the different causes of kidney disease.

* how people in rural and remote communities can have a hard time accessing the life saving treatment they need.

* how First Nations people are twice as likely to develop kidney disease and four times as likely to die from kidney disease than non-indigenous Australians.

* how over 2 million Australians are unaware they are living with early signs of kidney disease.

* some amazing people that have or had kidney disease.

Please donate to my page to raise funds for research into life-saving treatments, and provide support to the families of the 66 Australians that lose their life each day to kidney disease.

YOU can make a difference – Join me and help create a future where kidney health is a priority for all Australians.

Monday 30th Oct
Hi everyone,

Thanks so much to everyone who helped me reach my fundraising goal for Kidney Health Australia. I completed my running/riding target and am motivated to do even better in the coming months and year. My next goal is to complete a triathalon in 2024. Bring on good health and a happier kidney in 2024.

Kind regards,

Eliza

Thanks so much everyone

Hi everyone,

I am 47km in to my 60km goal with mostly riding so I endeavour to do the remainder of the 13km in in the next 2 weeks running.

I am also almost at my $500 fundraising goal. Thanks everyone who has donated so far. I am so grateful.

On a more important note, I am sharing an article and image of an important and remarkable Australian who died from kidney and liver disease as a result of hepatitis B, contracted in childhood. In the wake of the heartbreaking referendum outcome over the weekend, I want to highlight what a missed opportunity this is for supporting indigenous people to have a more direct say in the issues (like a health) that are disproportionately affecting their communities, not to mention the huge symbolism this has for how we respect the beautiful culture, this colony has taken so much from. Yes, I do believe symbolism, among action is important in this modern age. I won't post again until next week to oberve the week of mourning that has been asked for by those indigenous  groups and their allies who fought so hard for Yes.
